Social welfare
The Welfare Department advises and supports members of the Jewish community and their families in German, English, Russian and Hebrew. The following are among its areas of concern:
- General social services (intervention with governmental services, interpreting (language), reparations / compensation and retirement issues; field trips for seniors; finding a home; issues related to debt and legal matters)
- Coordination of “Rund um’s Alter” (intensive assistance for members 80 years and older, ranging from help for those with disabilities or in a crisis situation to assistance in moving to a care facility or in evaluation for disability care; visiting and chaperoning services; mobility and movement for seniors)
- Migration and integration (resolving questions related to legal status and the right to settle in Germany; provision of language courses; assistance to job seekers; translations; help in application processes; integration programmes)
- Youth and family (advising and assisting families in crisis situations; counseling related to kindergarten, school and training programmes; help in crises related to drug abuse and crime; support in cases of separation / divorce and child custody)
- Coordinating of volunteers (application process, duties, training)
- Coordination of the community’s non-profit associations, such as the Scholars’ Society, Veterans’ Club, “Massoret,” or the Club of Caucasus Jews
