Alexander Nachama

Alexander Nachama, born in 1983, has served as a cantor at the Herbartstraße Synagogue since the High Holy Days in September 1998. From 1999 to 2008 he also served in the Hüttenweg Synagogue. He is the grandson of Berlin’s unforgettable post-war Chief Cantor Estrongo Nachama of blessed memory, and son of Rabbi Andreas Nachama, with whom he leads weekly services at the Herbartstraße Synagogue.

After several years of training, in February 2005 Alexander Nachama received his cantorial certification from Rabbiner Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, founder and director of the Aleph rabbinical and cantorial ordination programs. In January 2008 he completed Judaic studies at the Free University of Berlin, with a “Bachelor of Arts”. Currently, Alexander Nachama is pursuing rabbinical studies at the Abraham Geiger College in Potsdam and a master’s degree program in “Jewish studies, history and culture” at the University of Potsdam.
